Tapir Love
This piece was an exploration of textured brushes in photoshop. I enjoyed coming up with various textures for the piece, trying to find appropriate ones for each element of the picture. For the Tapir itself I used crumpled up wax paper. I think it creates a better crumpled look than if I had used regular paper. It just looks more worn faster, I think. For the foliage in the foreground and background I borrowed a couple of my husband's most pattern neutral ties. The background is highly textured paper. The choice of a tapir as my subject matter came about because I was also sculpting one abstractly in my sculpture class. Since I had spent some time looking at photos and such, the obscure animal was on my mind. FYI, tapirs are not related to elephants or pigs, but actually to horses.
